Download or read book The Other Lands of Israel written by Liv Ingeborg Lied and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2008 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to the current scholarly consensus, the apocalypse of 2 Baruch, written after the Fall of Jerusalem, either rejected the concept of the Land of Israel as a place of salvation or regarded it as of minor importance. Inspired by the perspective of Critical Spatial Theory, this book discusses the presuppositions behind this consensus with regard to the spatial epistemology it assumes, and explores the conception of the Land as a broad redemptive category. The result is a fresh portrait of the vitality of the Land-theme in the first centuries of the common era and a new perspective on the spatial imagination of 2 Baruch.

Book excerpt: If there be characters and scenes that that seem drawn with too bright a pencil, the reader will consider that, after all, there are many worse sins than a disposition to think and speak well of one's neighbors. Following the remarkable success of Uncle Tom's Cabin, Harriet Beecher Stowe made three tours to England and Europe, which inspired the two-volume set, Sunny Memories in Foreign Lands. Both volumes are a series of letters, some written on the spot - some after the author's return home - of impressions as they arose, of her most agreeable visits to England, France, Switzerland, Germany, and Belgium during the first half of the nineteenth century. Volume I contains delightful letters from Stowe's travels throughout Liverpool, Lancashire, Dumbarton Castle, Aberdeen, Warwick, Birmingham including an extensive assortment of letters from London.Best known for her pivotal novel, Uncle Tom's Cabin, HARRIET BEECHER STOWE (1811-1896) will be remembered for helping frame the institution of slavery into a moral issue. Born in New England, this daughter of a Congregationalist minister authored more than two-dozen books, fiction and non-fiction.

Download or read book That Other Land written by Gudrun Fleischer Eckblad and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2001-05 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the good life? Is it to be rich? Or is it to live a rich life? This book is about human values, and how to realize them. A man from Bykrat visits the foreign land of Aipotu (pronounced eyePOtu; it may be read backwards too) and is shown around by his host, Gard. Aipotu is a high-tech, competent, and creative country that ranks human growth and joy of life above material wealth. It has an unconventional form of public administration, new roles for men and women, an unusual urban landscape, data technology designed to respect people’s wishes, and most importantly, a new conception of the inborn potential and importance of children. The people of Aipotu believe that since the ability to live a rich and happy life is formed in childhood, a society must give priority to its children and the conditions of their upbringing. Among other things they have a wonderful school system where each child can find its way according to its interests and develop its capacities, whatever they are, to the fullest. Enjoy this story about the inhabitants of Aipotu and be inspired by their creative solutions!
