Download or read book Roaring Silence written by Ngakpa Chogyam and published by Shambhala Publications. This book was released on 2002-12-03 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A practical guide to the Tibetan Buddhist tradition of Dzogchen—or the direct experience of enlightenment—complete with meditation techniques by two Vajrayana teachers In Roaring Silence, Vajrayana teachers Ngakpa Chögyam and Khandro Déchen walk the reader through the meditation techniques that "enable us to side-step the bureaucracy of intellectual processes and experience ourselves directly"—to discover this direct experience of enlightenment that is the mind of Dzogchen. Surprisingly, the approach is very pragmatic. Offering an investigation of the necessary steps, the authors begin with how to prepare for the journey: the lama is essential; as are a sense of humor, inspiration, and determination. They continue by describing the path of Dzogchen from sitting meditation to the direct perception of reality. The chapters include exercises for sharpening the presence of our awareness, for simple visualizations, and for investigating how to "remain uninvolved" with mental activity for a period—with follow-up guidance on how to view our experiences. Both practical and inspirational, the authors' exquisitely precise guidance is all presented with the caveat, "be kind to yourself, don't push yourself beyond your limits."

Download or read book Salt Lick, Vol. Ii written by Dr. Robert A. Brock and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2001-05-25 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SALT LICK, Vol. II, The Innocents, by Dr. Robert A. (Sunny) Brock, the conclusion of Ali ORileys celebration of life is glutted with maturing parent-child, emotional relationships, and sibling bonding. The same variety of personalities are present which filled the pages of Volume One, however, they are in the responsible summer of life. The comedy, romance and pathos of life reach new plateaus as the families blunder through the early child-rearing years with purpose and hope. As a clan-unit they share their joys and surprises, exploring male-female differences in perspective, finding new levels of patience with each others shortcomings. Again, the Christian message of redemption is folded into real life situations amidst friction and agitation. All the relationships jell, teaching tolerance and patience among the diverse antagonistic personalities. THOMAS and ALI set up housekeeping near a valley lake. The other clan-couples soon follow, building homes around the lake, creating a protective, pastoral paradise and establishing their own town of Cousins, Georgia, between Savannah and Macon. Thomas and Alis cabin is nestled beside the main wagon trail. A mysterious traveler and his two children, running from the east-coast Scarlet fever epidemic, are stranded. The stranger departs in the night, leaving his ill children in Thomas and Alis care. Before the young girl dies, Ali catches her contagious disease. Ali looses her strength and glory due to the ravages of Scarlet fever. The small abandoned boy is given to ELIJAH to rear. One of the many animal episodes occur in the cabin, teaching priority management. During early morning hours, a squabbling wood duck and squirrel fall into the fireplace. The comic bedlam of the chase brings about an accidental fire. This incident sets the stage for empathetic-comedy, and romantic interlude of emotional joy and stress release, which the reader will vicariously share and fall in love with the couple. Alis first born son, SUNNY (Big Foot), enters the story and steals the show to the end of the book. Sunnys two year old, baby-talk is contrasted by his uninformed thought life, which adds classical, innocent joy from his birth to the conclusion. Sunny is born with a club foot. Uncle Elijah builds a twisting box for therapeutic straightening of the foot. The entire clan shares Alis agony, watching helpless as her baby suffers. Elijahs wife is barren from too much cattle driving and horse riding as a child, therefore, he brings several orphans into the clan. Having been raised in a household of twenty-one children, he cannot function well without sibling rivalry and bonding. On a trip to Savannah, promoting his Elijah treasure chest-coffins he obtains custody of a criminal's children, thus enters GEORGE, into the clan family-fabric. George becomes one of Sunnys protector-benefactors. Elijahs wife, HOWDY, develops a jealous battle between herself and sister-in-law. The family squabble results in ROWDY becoming a paraplegiate. Rowdys invalid state affords opportunity to teach forgiveness, patience and tenacity. Thomas takes Ali and Sunny shopping in Savannah. The gala mood ends in tragedy when Sunny gets lost from Daddy at the Savannah Zoo. The helpless anxiety of losing a child pervades the episode. Unknown to the parents, a vagrant child tries caring for Sunny, resulting in much pathetic comedy. The new caretaker, GOOBER, also loses Sunny on one of their many rollicking jaunts. However, Goober in his persistence, rescues Sunny, and after many near death situations, returns him to his mother, who thinks a guardian angel has returned her baby. Then, Ali loses and rescues Sunny. Before leaving Savannah, the orphan, Goober, is convince
Download or read book Bitter Bitch written by Maria Sveland and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2011-01-27 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On a miserable January morning Sarah is sitting on a plane to Tenerife - dickheads' destination of choice - for a week-long getaway. She's just realised that she's very angry and becoming a bitter bitch, despite being just thirty years old. With her on the plane she has a copy of Erica Jong's Fear of Flying and wishes it were 1975 instead of 2005. Sarah never intended for things to turn out the way they have: she just dreamed of love like everyone else. But now she's sitting here, thinking about all the injustices she's suffered. Thinking about how thoroughly fooled she was by the promise of love - the one that makes us want to start a family. Thinking about all the women she knows who, like her, were drained of all their energy by family hell - an inheritance passed down directly from generation to generation, from her restless mother's eczema-covered dishpan hands to her own nervous over-achiever complex. Angry and candid, Bitter Bitch is an uncompromising novel, at the heart of which is one of the most important women's issues: how can we ever have an egalitarian society when we can't even live in equality with those we love?
Download or read book Emotional Rescue written by Dzogchen Ponlop and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2016-04-19 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this life-changing book, acclaimed Buddhist teacher Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche shows how to free yourself from being a victim of your emotions by gaining the awareness and understanding that will help you harness their power. Emotions bring color and meaning to our lives, but they can also put us on an exhausting rollercoaster ride that takes us to blissful peak states, the depths of delusion and despair, and everything in between. It is only by learning to relate to our emotions skillfully that we benefit from their richness and glean wisdom, rather than letting them control us. Emotions get their power from a simple but deep-seated source: our lack of self-knowledge. When we bring awareness to our experience of emotions, something truly amazing happens—they lose their power to make us miserable. In this book, Rinpoche leads us through the three steps of his Emotional Rescue Plan. Mindful Gap is the practice of creating a safe distance between you and your emotions, which gives you the psychological space to work with their energy. Clear Seeing involves recognizing the bigger picture. Last, Letting Go is the practice of releasing stressful physical and emotional energy through exercise, relaxation, and awareness. With each step, we become increasingly familiar with the inner workings of our emotions, seeing straight to the heart of anger, fear, passion, jealousy, and pride. With time and practice, instead of leading us astray, our emotions become our guide towards living a more compassionate, creative, and fulfilling life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dive into this fun and quirky Urban Fantasy novel that draws from Asian mythology! If I tell you that I have magic, you’re probably going to expect all kinds of fancy things, like fire balls or maybe some kind of badass demon slaying assassin. Yeah, that’s not me. I’m a barber to the supernatural because my magic is too weak and weird to do anything else. So why have the fae asked me to look after one of their eggs—the most precious thing in the world to a fae—when I’m so vastly under qualified? Either they’ve taken leave of their senses, or they’re seriously desperate. And if the fae are desperate, that means that with my weak magic, I’m utterly out of my depth. Oh, and my backup is a sarcastic cat, which doesn’t come in handy when I find myself facing off against a very old, very powerful magical creature who’s after the egg. The damn cat scampers off and I’m left with nothing more than my piddly magic and my wits to get myself out of this mess. That’s the thing about the magical underworld of Panong—it might be dangerous and complicated, but at least it’s never dull. The Razor’s Edge Chronicles is an Asian Urban Fantasy series drawing inspiration from various Asian myths and featuring all kind of amazing new magical creatures, totally different from anything you’ve encountered so far. Download or read book Popular written by Tindell Baldwin and published by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.. This book was released on 2013-06-21 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tindell Baldwin’s words best describe her passion and this book: “My heart is for teenage girls because my story is much like so many of theirs. I was just a girl who made a lot of mistakes. I was a girl who had sex before marriage and then had a broken heart. I was a girl who did drugs and drank to fill the void that was deep in my heart. I was a girl who was desperate to be popular. A girl who, like so many others, didn’t know the dark side of sin. So my aim is to reach teenage girls, and through an honest account of my darkest sins, show them what they are up against. My heart is that teens would hear my story and flee to Christ. My greatest desire is that God would be glorified above all else.” Through a two-part journey (“Dark” and “Light”), Tindell details how she said goodbye to her family’s God and pursued popularity at all costs while climbing the social chain in high school. During a night of partying, she even encountered the man suspected of killing Natalee Holloway in Aruba. But God did not leave Tindell. The “Light” part of her story shows how she reconnected with God, changed her ways, and discovered abundant and real life through Christ.
